Bologna is better the second time around

First, we definitely hit pay dirt as far as the culinary artisans are concerned. You can smell the Parmigiano-Reggiano from almost a block away! The cheese, hand-made pasta - mostly tortellini - but other shapes, too, the pastry, even the prepared food are all fantastic.

To my little upcountry tribe of friends (and Marcia) - I'm bringing home what is allegedly the best dried pasta in Italy in my favorite shape - gemelli - and I shall invite you all over for dinner when I've sufficiently decompressed.

We had lunch at a place frequented by businessmen called Al Montegrappa da Nell0. It was recommended in a recent Saveur article. I got to have my cake and eat it too, so to speak. Homemade tortellini in a cream sauce WITH a dollop of ragu. Unbelievable. And since porcini mushrooms have just come into season here, Wanda had polenta with funghetta. Also delizioso.

After lunch, Wanda took off for classical art and I went directly to the modern art museum. New York has MoMA, Los Angeles has MOCA, Bologna has MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna. And I must say, the space is spectacular and I saw LOTS of work by Italian artists that I loved. Unfortunately, no photos allowed - that is one thing the Biennale does have over all the museums. I will read over my notes and do a separate post on at least some of the pieces and also do a bit of searching on the web to see if any of the artists have sites with images.
