How on earth could I have forgotten to mention "the baker"??!! Some of you will recall I met a wonderful baker on Murano in '07 - his shop was easy to find on this return trip and although he was already pau for the day and at home, I had a lovely conversation with his wife. Yes, of course, we stocked up on goodies! HUGE meringues with crunchy, melt-in-your-mouth outer shells and luscious, sweet, oozy centers, Zaletti - a traditional Venetian cookie with currants and fruit peel which I've made several times but not like THESE!, and little tartlets filled with the local interpretation of marzipan...all delizioso.
