Since I plan to completely immerse myself in contemporary art starting today (Biennale press previews start at 10:00 a.m.), I thought a look at some classical Venetian art was in order yesterday. I spent some time with Titian and Bellini and Vivarini at Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. The centerpiece is surely Titian's "Assumption" which dominates the High Altar. There are large glass sculptures displayed in various locations around the island. This is a detail from one that can best be described as a giant bale of glass hay. Fantastic!

So that's the Biennale theme this year - Making Worlds. There is not much sign of it. This poster doesn't quite cut it.
The Old Customs House and Santa Maria della Salute (Baroque church)
This is the new Pinault venue as described in the T magazine piece - it's close to the apt., can't wait to see it. For those who were here two years ago, notice the scaffolding is off Salute.
