Finally, a thrilling installation!

I went back to Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore this afternoon to see two exhibits that were closed when we were there on Monday and I'm so glad I did.

The John Wesley retrospective is glorious. (Sorry, no photos allowed.)

The other - called "Purple Desk" - is thrilling!
It is an exhibition of photographs by German artist Matthias Schaller. On one side of the space is a series of 30 photographs - all taken looking looking absolutely straight on - of the desks of the Cardinals responsible for various departments of the Vatican Curia. Portraits without people.

Opposite are three large photographs called "Disportraits" - spacesuits that are confining but that also allow us to travel beyond our Earth. Both series depict restraint and protection.

The space is as striking as the work - the island's former swimming pool.

Like I said - thrilling!
