I've been to both Pinault venues - Punta della Dogana and Palazzo Grassi - where, of course, they don't allow photos and the beautiful (security) people wear black suits, white shirts and ties (men AND women) and earpieces like Secret Service agents, and everything is very chic-chic and the answer to every question is "no" or "can't" or "don't." They're just full of themselves - even more so than two years ago - and you know what, they didn't CREATE the art, they just stand around being self-important while other people - who have PAID - view the art. Okay, nuff.
One of my very favorite "pieces," in the current Grassi exhibition is a list. American artist Rob Pruitt has compiled 101 Art Ideas You Can Do Yourself - http://www.e-flux.com/projects/pruitt/index.php3?num=0 - and a bunch of them are "installed" in the palazzo. Here are my favorites...
#72 - Put Googly Eyes on Things (and he has, on a classic frieze - hilarious!)
#80 - Invent a Color and Name It
#26 - Turn Your TV Upside Down (and watch it like the one in the caffe!)
#50 - Make Mud - 2 parts dirt, 1 part water, Use as Paint or Clay (there are wonderful child-like mud paintings all the way up and down one of the staircases for three floors - such fun!)
#39 - Sneak Your Own Merchandise Into Stores
Love it!
