This, my dear friends, is the perfect spritz. Having the Grand Canal in the background only adds to the perfection. We had dinner last night at Bancogiro - there's a little row of restaurants/trattorie/osterie on a promenade that juts out over the Grand Canal adjacent to the Rialto Market. Bancogiro is one of these - I think the best one. We had the primo table, the weather was perfect, the food delicious, the service beyond the call. King prawns tartare with orange, green beans and dill/mustard dressing. White asparagus and Taleggio (cheese) ravioli with zucchini flowers and basil. Black olive gnocchi with rabbit ragout and chicory. A cheese plate with honey and preserves. And the battle of the bands - this time just tiramisu - continued. Very good...but not a contender.
Ah, finally. Dinner tonight at Alle Testiere. It's just a perfect little restaurant. Half a lobster, steamed with rosemary, butter, olive oil, basil and salad greens. Mussels marinara. Burrata (a cheese similar to and a little stronger than mozzarella) ravioli with scallops and eggplant. Grilled monkfish. Grilled vegetables - endive, artichoke heart, eggplant, zucchini. Tiramisu - fantastic but I'm afraid still second to Arturo's. Dark chocolate "truffle" cakelet with amaretto and rum, a beautifully decorated/dusted plate and a couple of Venetian "esses" - traditional Venetian cookies made in the shape of the letter "s." (I've made them, you all liked them, they're better here, duh!) AND I GOT the panna cotta recipe (sort of)...I will make it and do my best to perfect it a la Alle Testiere.
Art? What art??
